International Volunteer Day: Creating #BetterDays Around the World

International Volunteer Day on December 5 celebrates the power of giving back, and in its spirit, we’re recapping how we made an impact through our World Food Day volunteering. We recognize  World Food Day each year by giving back in our  communities around the world. It serves not only as an opportunity for our employees to volunteer for causes they care about, but it also enables Kellanova to maintain its Better Days™ Promise commitments to advance sustainable and equitable access to food.

From Battle Creek to Toronto to Sao Paulo to Cairo, hundreds of our employees came together on World Food Day to pack meals at food banks, plant public gardens and support hyper-local initiatives from our retailers and customers—volunteering over 2,500 hours to help fight hunger worldwide.

North America
In the U.S., over 150 employees volunteered for various causes and organizations. In Chicago and Battle Creek, nearly 70 individuals volunteered at food banks, Operation Homefront for its Holiday Meals for Military program and other activities. During a professional development event in partnership with The Diversity Org, our employees mentored under-resourced high school students on the skills needed for success in a corporate career.

Across the border, our Canadian team rolled up their sleeves to bake nearly 300 pies at Eden Food for Change, a food bank and kitchen located in Mississauga, Ontario. That equates to nearly 600 pounds of food!

Africa, Middle East and Asia
Across the region, our employees logged 1,200 volunteer hours! In India, they supported The Breakfast Revolution, a non-profit dedicated to combatting malnutrition among children.

Our employees in Korea, Egypt, Australia and New Zealand helped pack and cook food, while others in South Africa donated more than one million meals!

Latin America
Nearly 350 employees in Mexico, Brazil, Guatemala and Brazil volunteered more than 1,000 hours packing meals at local food banks, refurbishing facilities for local organizations and revitalizing vegetable gardens.

Our teams in Mexico also utilized our strong relationships with our retail partners to help create even more #BetterDays: they teamed up with Oxxo, the largest convenience store chain in the country, to distribute an exclusive special edition product across 26,000 points of sale, while in Brazil we collaborated with online shopping platform Shopee and supermarket chain Rede CONFIANÇA.

These efforts donated more than 4 million portions of food to communities in need.

Europe
At our plant in Kutno, Poland where we make our iconic Pringles, employees rallied together to collect food for a local children’s charity. They donated 528 kg of food or the equivalent of 16,000 portions!
