For the second year in a row, Kellanova was a sponsoring partner of the Chicago Football Classic (CFC), held at Soldier Field on Sept. 21.
CFC is a not-for-profit organization, founded in 1997 by Larry Huggins, Everett Rand, and Tim Rand, to support historically Black colleges and universities (HBCUs) and to encourage African American youth to achieve excellence in school and beyond. The organization adopts schools, awards scholarships, showcase talents of scholarship recipients, host college and career fairs and has sent many kids to HBCUs. CFC’s goal is to connect Chicagoland students with Historically Black Colleges and Universities (HBCUs) through direct scholarships, HBCU college and career fairs, a Financial Empowerment Summit and a one-of-a kind football game and halftime show.
“Kellanova’s vision is creating better days and a place at the table for everyone through our trusted food brands,” says Michelle Barnes, Director of Foodservice Commercial Strategy, Kellanova Away From Home. “We are proud to support the Chicago Football Classic. It’s an outstanding event and mission that continues to provide important connections for current and prospective students of Historically Black Colleges and Universities.”
In this year’s game, Morehouse College scored in the final seconds to beat Kentucky State [31-28]. There was a special halftime show that included the Cheez-It mascot, Ched-Z, and Kellanova sponsored a tent with snacks for fans to sample.
Kellanova worked with Sodexo Magic and both colleges to host watch parties that included Pringles, Cheez-It crackers, pizza, and other snacks and prizes. And prior to their departure for Chicago, each football team and band members received a branded drawstring backpack to stock up on snacks for their trip. Additionally, Kellanova donated 150 game tickets to Gary Indiana School District Indiana to encourage students and their families to take part in the game and fun football festivities.
